Mainstream Literature

Sometimes a good book is all you need. For the book lovers out there, here lies a list of cannibal/women-eating themed fiction I've found over the years. I've given two ratings, one general rating as a work of mainstream literature and another taking into account how well it satisfies the gynophagia fetish. Do send me feedback if you agree or disagree with my ratings. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these and also any suggestions of other books I may have missed.

almuricrobertehoward

Almuric by Robert E. Howard

The creator of the classic Conan series comes up with a "Conan in Space" pulp novel, this time, the protagonist comes in the form of Esau Cairn, an Earthling who finds himself sent across space to the brutal planet of Almuric inhabited by primitive barbarian races and winged humanoids called the Yagas who loves capturing pretty females as slaves and food.

asfatewouldhaveitmichaelcalvilloAs Fate Would Have It by Michael Louis Calvillo

A cannibalistic gourmet chef, dealing with issues of guilt tries to kick his people-eating habit, but his wife won't let him. Despite what the cover suggests, there's plenty of women-eating in this intriguing story in one of my favourite books on this topic. The character study is excellent and the inner monologues, so heartfelt and relatable that even non-fetishists could almost feel for the killer. However, the cannibalism is less sexual, more practical. It's a wonder why this wonderfully written book isn't more well known and sadly perhaps it's because of the dark subject matter and that the author has sadly passed away at an early age.

Ashes by Matt Shaw

Four friends go on a beach holiday without realizing the dangers of venturing too far into areas unknown. This novella is a "digestible" short read & is reminiscent of Cannibal Holocaust & Green Inferno. Fortunately, unlike in Green Inferno, the most graphic scene is reserved for a particularly lovely lady. I cant help but draw parallels of Matt Shaw's writing to that of Jack Ketchum who are both brutal & thoughtful at the same time in regards to the treatment of their characters who are not just meat fodder, but who feel very human as they're "fleshed" out very well, pun intended.

The Big Book of Grimm by the Brothers Grimm & adapted by Jonathan Vankin

A collection of uncensored R-rated Brothers Grimm stories. There's a good number of cannibal-related stories including the Juniper Tree, Fitcher's Bird, Hansel & Gretel, Red Riding Hood, The Mother-in-Law, but the highlight has to be the Robber Bridegroom which is reason enough to purchase this illustrated compilation.

Black Mischiefblack-mischief-waugh by Evelyn Waugh

Set in a fictitious African nation, this 1932 novel has a particularly delicious (but mostly off-screen) end to one of the young and lovely characters, a different turn to the typical 'save-the-damsel' in the end trope to these cannibal-jungle potboiler stories. It takes a while to get to the juicy parts though the end is worth the wait.

butcher-tannerclarkButcher by Clark E. Tanner

A series of disappearances involving young, disassociated hikers in a sleepy desert town in California. This mystery-thriller is surprisingly gripping and very on-topic, which is a rare treat. Recommended!

cannibalcabarettjcollensThe Cannibal Cabaret by T. J. Collens

A Dolcett-themed strip club finds itself the centre of a series of grisly murders. Police find no leads and it's up to a stripper to help catch this cannibalistic serial killer and uncover a secret even deeper than she could imagine before all her stripper friends end up on the menu.

cannibalcultguynsmith

Cannibal Cult by Guy N. Smith

The third book of the Sabat series by pulp writer, Smith, has a cannibal cult and their supernatural leader as the main antagonist. A couple of pretty good gynophagia scenes, though not as lengthy as the ones involving males, including horrified accounts of the crime recited during a trial and another scene at the end. Not to be missed by cannibal fetishists.

cannibalinmanhattantamajanowitz

Cannibal in Manhattan by Tama Janowitz

A rather self-indulgent novel from an Andy Warhol groupie about a jungle cannibal tribesman whisked away to New York by a pretty socialite to be 'educated' in the ways of the civilized world, but in turn we question which is the more civilized culture. The interesting part comes when he is tricked into consuming human flesh, but that's about it with this cold and misanthropical novel.

Claw of the Conciliator by Gene Wolfe

The second book of the New Sun continues the tale of Severian, the Torturer, and his adventures in a fantastical world that seems so distant and otherworldly, yet is as close to home than you'd expect. Personally, this series is one of my favorites and I can't believe that I've waited this long to finally read it. The language is often times archaic and descriptive. The characters are deep & thoughtfully depicted. This is mature sci-fi/fantasy at its best. There is one particular scene in the 2nd book of the series that's not to be missed for gynophagia fetishists that can leave your jaw on the floor. One that is very surprising to be found within the pages of a mainstream novel. I can't recommend this highly enough.

confessionsofaflesheaterdavidmadsenConfessions of a Flesh Eater by David Madsen

Hannibal Lecter meets Jean Baptiste Grenouille, Orlando Crispe purports the fine art of dining in its most spiritual and highly vulgar form. If you can bear the over-indulgence of homo-eroticism, this book does have a couple of good scenes involving female flesh. Surprisingly detailed and poetic in its graphic description of the culinary arts. Read this if you're not adverse to slogging through a whole lot of gay descriptions to get to a small dose of gynophagia.

cremedelacreme-johnpiperLa Crème de la Crème by John Piper

A silly prank by a daughter of an aspiring politician inadvertently uncovers a series of disappearances of young women, involving a morgue, a butcher, and a restaurant that serves some very "special" meat. Very good character development and you could see how one action affects another.

This sequel to Through Darkest America (see review below) has Howie Ryder travel across the twisted human-cattle eating countryside to find his missing sister at a mysterious place called Silver Isle and uncover a terrible secret about how the world came to be this way. Not as many scenes as the first book but unfortunately this one has a heartbreaking moment involving an underaged girl.

Dexter_Is_Delicious_Cover

Dexter is Delicious by Jeff Lindsay

The 5th book in the Dexter series surprisingly hits the nail regarding the consensual cannibal fetish community. Dexter investigates the disappearance of 2 young girls and discovers an underground world of the cannibal fetish community. Some good scenes involve investigating a crime scene where one of the girls' remains had turned up after being roasted in a barbecue. One wonders if he was a member of the Dolcett forum while doing research for this book!

Dining with Devils by Gordon Aalborg

The sequel to the surprisingly on-topic novel, The Specialist. Our favorite serial killer isn't dead and has the appetite for revenge for the young woman who had eluded him in the first book. Sadly, this story isn't as "delicious" as the previous entry but does provide more references to the previous book's victims and also, much like the first book, the ending also leaves a lot to be desired.

epicurehrhowland

The Epicure by H. R. Howland

A young psychic girl has visions of a killer who is part of a secret "Epicurean" society with a peculiar refined taste. And this year, he is responsible for procuring the society's next main course. This is probably one of the best books out there for gynophagia fetishists while at the same time, intriguing and suspenseful enough that even non-fetishists could enjoy it. Keep an eye out for the flashback excerpts of the cannibal society's ancient journal. Delicious!

FarnhamsFreeholdrobertheinleinFarnham's Freehold by Robert A. Heinlein

A family of unlikeable rednecks find themselves thrust into a post apocalyptic far future where the black race rule the world and the Caucasians are treated as slaves and... well... the obvious. Heinlein fans might love this controversial book but personally, I always seem to find myself impatient with his long-winded style of writing. Mind you, if you're patient enough, the good stuff's at the end.

thefeedingleighclarkThe Feeding by Leigh Clark

A B-grade novel about people being eaten by monsters in a rural mountain town in California. Some chicks get knocked off. Lots of vivid description of gore and dismembered limbs, topped off by a pretty disturbing finale involving underaged kids. Don't say I didn't warn you.

First Contact (Cannibal Cravings Book 1) by M.L. Flint

A very short read about two girls captured by cannibalistic natives. The narrative is somewhat run-of-the-mill but written in a way that is very sexual especially if one's a fan of lesbian scenes and does not hold back the gory cannibal bits.

stuartmacbridefleshhouse

Flesh House by Stuart MacBride

The fourth book in the Logan McRae crime novel series, this book can be read on its own if you don't want to read the other non-cannibal related novels. This one involves a series of disappearances that occur in the Scottish city of Aberdeen and the protagonist suspects that this might be tied to an old cannibal serial-killer case that happened many years ago. A nicely done crime caper with some juicy scenes. Unfortunately, the most graphic scene is reserved for a male victim. There are plenty of female victims, though the violence is mostly "off-screen".

In the Arms of Nightmares by Robert Dean

Arthur, a sociopathic ex-vet turned chef stalks the city of New Orleans leading to a life of murder & cannibalism. This story is written entirely from the perspective of the main character and there seems to be no repercussions from his horrific actions, rendering the story very one-dimensional. It dwells too much on one man's thoughts & struggle to overcome his demons, and one can only take so much being inside a mind of a crazed killer. Aside from a very on-topic situation involving a beautiful prostitute, there's really not much point to this book.

booksofbloodclivebarkerMidnight Meat Train by Clive Barker

This short story can be found in the 1st Volume of Clive Barker's Books of Blood Horror Collection. Although a confessed homosexual, Barker strikes a good balance of gynophagia and androphagia scenes. One of the best fiction written works on the subject, one not to be missed. This story has been adapted into a somewhat interesting Hollywood movie.

Murgunstrumm & Others by Hugh B. Cave

This book features a collection of short stories and the only tale you'd be interested in is the main fare, Murgunstrumm, featuring a dim-witted servant of a group of vampires who is tasked to seek out ladies to feed their blood-sucking habits. Fortunately, it's a symbiotic relationship as Murgunstrumm has uses for the corpses after his masters are done with them. The idea of this tale is right up the Gynophage's alley but if there is a downside, is that the story does not dwell on these "juicier" parts.

Make sure you obtain the unexpurgated version of the story, as earlier publications have been censored, especially the good parts. I don't want to reveal too much but safe to say, this book doesn't hold back the violence. A controversial and disturbing book and highly recommended.

A sequel to Confessions of a Flesh Eater. Orlando Crispe is at it again, this time, coming up with his own cookbook with excerpts from the earlier novel and some new chapters. Some recipes are innocent enough, but a select few does include some choice cuts of human fare. The female variety is not neglected, though rare and occasionally depicted in a not so appetizing light.

ritualgrahammastersonRitual by Graham Masterson

A restaurant reviewer and his son meets strange cannibal cult. The premise is excellent and I would have given it two enthusiastic thumbs up if it weren't for the fact that the people eating here is a finger here, a small piece of stomach that ultimately the cannibalism aspect feels rather lightweight. Could be someone else's cup of tea but not mine. I like my cannibalism in all its grand violence and butchery.

Quite a surprisingly relevant find. A perfectionist cannibal serial killer hunts pretty young ladies and an occassional overweight theatre director. A particularly vivid scene not to be missed early on, though the story somewhat fizzles out towards the end, to a strange ending anti-climatic enough for me to rummage through the back pages wondering whether there were any pages torn off. Nonetheless, a can't miss especially for the cannibal "connoisseurs".

In this post-apocalyptic classic sci-fi novel, Human-looking livestock are harvested for their meat. A middle-aged woman with a terminal illness has a surprisingly shocking last request from her closest friends, one which would test their friendship and also their stomach.
